All-Inclusive Dominican Republic Trip

From ocean swims and bachata nights to palm-shaded beaches — a real traveler’s experience at Occidental Caribe, Punta Cana.

The Dominican Republic is a true Caribbean gem, shining with kaleidoscopic culture, warm people, and endless sunshine. Our all-inclusive vacation turned out to be much more than unlimited fried bananas and rum — it was a dive into the vibrant spirit of the island and its people.

We stayed in Bávaro at a mid-range hotel — Occidental Caribe. The main reason we chose it was the clean beach and crystal-clear water, and that goal was fully achieved. The hotel grounds were lush and green, and the wide sandy beach with plenty of natural shade from palm leaves made every moment perfect. Swimming in the turquoise ocean while gazing at that tropical view was pure joy.

Life at the Resort — Sun, Rum, and Relaxation

I wouldn’t call myself a picky traveler, so the food at the hotel was just fine — plenty of choice and always something tasty to grab. Honestly, as long as the sun is shining, I can lie on the beach with an endless rum and lime cocktail and feel like the happiest person alive.

What I still remember vividly are the fresh passion fruits served with ice cream — a simple pleasure that felt like paradise.

Dance, Music, and Local Energy

One of the highlights of our stay was the hotel animation and evening entertainment. Every day was filled with energizing Latin music — merengue, bachata, salsa — and plenty of opportunities to dance. I loved joining the daily dance lessons and moving to live saxophone tunes under the stars.

We were lucky to witness a small carnival show celebrating Dominican Independence Day — colorful costumes, contagious rhythms, and so much fun, all without leaving the resort.

Exploring Bávaro Beach and Beyond

Walking along the long Bávaro beach is an experience on its own — endless sand, gentle waves, and the rhythm of life slowing down. Heading toward the RIU República hotel, there’s even a small wild jungle area near the beach, a quieter spot to enjoy untouched island nature. I loved it there.

Although this was meant to be a lazy all-inclusive holiday, we did leave the resort twice — just enough to get a taste of the island’s culture.

Our first outing was a short shopping trip to Punta Cana, where we visited a local cigar house, tried a rum tasting, and bought a few souvenirs to take home.

A Boat Trip to Saona Island — A Slice of Heaven

Our second adventure was a boat trip to Saona Island, a heavenly place that looks like it came straight out of a postcard. With its turquoise water, curving palm trees, and piña coladas served in pineapples, it’s the ultimate Caribbean dream.

On the way, we stopped at the famous Natural Swimming Pools — shallow blue waters where you can spot sea stars beneath your feet. At the end of the trip, we sailed by catamaran along the Chavón River, a filming location for Anaconda and Jurassic Park. The wild jungle views were completely different from the coast, and dancing with locals on the boat made me realize — the people here are the island’s true treasure.

Caribbean Sunrises and Reflections

One of my favorite memories from Occidental Caribe is watching the breathtaking Caribbean sunrises right from the beach. I couldn’t believe how quickly time passed — I didn’t want this all-inclusive escape to end.

It was relaxing, full of rhythm, and never boring. The energy of the Dominican Republic left me completely refreshed.

Punta Cana

So if you’re planning your trip, don’t just focus on hotel stars or fancy amenities. Decide what matters most to you — for me, it was a clean beach and warm ocean — and go for it. This country has so much to offer, far beyond the resort gates.
